Vikings knocked out of FA Cup at the hands of Morpeth Town.
Goole AFC were knocked out the FA Cup after a 5-1 defeat against Morpeth Town. The home side struggled against their opponents and succumbed to an early exit from the coveted competition.
Morpeth Town opened the scoring in just the 8th minute. There was some excellent play from a corner and Sean Taylor whipped the ball into the bottom corner. The Vikings were on the back foot from the start of the game and conceded their second in the 21st minute. Morpeth had a free-kick in a very dangerous position, the ball was curled into the Goole box and Christopher Reid was on hand to head the ball into the Goole net.
As the first half progressed, Goole had some decent possession but couldn't create any clear cut chances. The referee blew the whistle and the home side knew they had a fight on their hands if they wanted to get back into the game. The Vikings didn't have the best start to the second half as they conceded a penalty in the opening minute via a handball. Sean Taylor grabbed his second of the game to make it 3-0 and he coolly slotted home.
Just 8 minutes later Morpeth got their fourth of the game through Adam Burnicle. Similarly to the first half, Goole had some stints in the second half were they controlled the tempo and possession but didn't produce the chances they needed to reduce the deficit. To rub salt into their wounds, Goole conceded their fifth in stoppage time. Defender, Luke Sellers accidentally diverted the ball into the Goole net after a dangerous cross.
Goole did though restore some parity in the dying embers of the game. Adam Lund produced a cracking header to make it 5-1 with the last touch of the game which give the home faithful something to cheer about.
