FA Vase : Goole A.FC. 1 - 2 Barnoldswick Town
By Dave Oldridge
Vikings knocked out of FA Vase despite a strong performance.
Goole were knocked out of the FA Vase at the hands of Lancashire outfit Barnoldswick Town.
The Vikings had the worst possible start as Barnoldswick opened the scoring in just the 12th minute. Some suspect defending from a corner allowed Zack Dale to score past Joe Wilton in the Goole net.
The away side carried on with their early pressure and nearly doubled the lead but the ball cannoned back off the post. This effort spurred Goole on and they so nearly grabbed an equaliser. There was some excellent build up play on the edge of Barnoldswick's box, Ollie Smith produced a curling effort which just evaded the top corner.
The referee then blew for half time and the Vikings knew they would have to raise their game to advance into the next round.
However, Barnoldswick then doubled their lead with the first attack of the second half. Zack Dale grabbed his second after an electric attack, which totally took Goole by surprise. Goole knew it would be an uphill struggle after going two goals down but this made them more determined to get back into the match.
One of Goole's standout performers Ollie Smith managed to pull it back to 1-2 but the home side couldn't produce any real chances after that and Barnoldswick held on for the victory.
